ELIZABETH HEINHUIS, LLC
"Therapeutic growth is anchored in relationship. It is through relationship that contact with self and with others is enhanced, memories are recovered, and the self is reintegrated. Without a contactful relationship between therapist and client, therapy is at best mechanical, symptom-bound process: figure out what behaviors are not working, change them and get out. A relationship-oriented therapy, in contrast, concerns itself with the whole person and with recovering fragmented aspects of oneself and bringing them together—the basis of change”

Some experiences we have had produce thoughts and feelings that then act as dark clouds that linger in the background of every new experience, shaping the way we behave, think or feel about this particular situation or others. As a result depression, stress, anxiety and other symptoms may arise. There are many reason why you find yourself seeking therapy at this time, however, I imagine a consistent theme may be the desire to begin building the life and relationships you desire. If what I have described sounds familiar it may be time explore a new way of connecting with the world around you. Therapy is one of the few spaces in which insightful, thought-provoking connections can thrive; allowing room for new understanding, fostering growth and healing past wounds. Ultimately, providing the necessary space and time to heal. While I build my practice from many schools of therapeutic technique, I truly believe the relationship between client and therapist is the most important piece of the counseling experience and the healing process.

While it is often the case that there is an easily definable reason to seek out therapy, it is also the case that there is no known cause for the desire to engage in insightful introspection. Looking inward as a way of engaging with the world in a new way is a multidimensional experience; filled with new emotions, experiences and vulnerabilities that were once unknown.

As we enter into a therapeutic relationship we may become aware of just how daunting it can be to take the first steps into emotional health and well-being. While this may be true for some, it may also be that due to the nature of relationships, it can be tough to talk with our immediate family and friends about some of our deepest thoughts. Whatever your experience may be it is my hope that the unique dynamics involved with therapy can ease the anxiety that comes with vulnerability, by creating a comfortable and safe space to begin processing past and current experiences that are causing stress.

Throughout the therapeutic process I will collaborate with my clients to help identify what is happening in the moment, deepen self-understanding and experiment with new solutions.  The foundation of my practice is built on fostering meaningful connections in a safe environment using empathy, compassion and curiosity. I will provide a nonjudgmental environment in which we will work together to strengthen relationships, embrace your whole self, increase self-awareness and find deeper understanding of patterns in your life.

If what I have described resonates with you, please contact me for a free 10-15 minute consultation. I can be reached at 317-981-2055.  At that time I can answer any questions you might have about my practice, scheduling, or billing; as well as any concerns you may have.  Please leave a voicemail message if you'd like me to call you back.
