"HEALING IS A SERIES OF PROGRESSIVELY DEEPENING STEPS AS THE THERAPY DEVELOPS. THERAPIST AND CLIENT ENGAGE IN A 'PARALLEL SPIRALING-DOWN'; AND CONTACTING EACH OTHER, AT DEEPER AND DEEPER LEVELS OF BEING. THIS FOSTERS AN INTIMACY THAT WE RARELY ALLOW TO DEVELOP IN OUR DAILY LIVES"

Hello

Picture
My name is Elizabeth Heinhuis and I am a licensed mental health therapist. I was trained at The Christian Theological Seminary and graduated in 2016. I have since studied for three years at the Indianapolis Gestalt Institute and I continue to train at the Seattle Gestalt Institute now. Since graduation in 2016, I have worked with a wide range of ages and populations, ranging from elderly to young children, individuals and families. Some other certifications that I have include Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Play Therapy, Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy and Emotionally Focused Psychotherapy.

While working in community mental health services, I observed that many people, regardless of background, diagnosis, or gender, share common areas of struggle. This observation inspired me to learn best counseling practices to address “past hurts and present hurdles” that often prevent people from achieving their fullest potential. I went on to earn my accreditation as an Indiana Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) after completing more than 3,000 hours of supervised training in direct patient care over two years’ time.

I focus on creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment focused on empathy, compassion, and treating the whole self. Therapy can seem like a daunting endeavor but as we work together I hope to foster a meaningful connection where you can begin to explore past experiences, current stressors, and future goals. I specialize in working with clients dealing with (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, and relationship issues.

Here are some common reasons people contact me:
  • Grief: It can be overwhelming to begin the healing process after a significant loss but therapy is one of the unique places where processing can occur without judgment. Grief is a long process and in order to find healing you must begin expressing all of the thoughts, feelings and experiences that have occurred as a result of the grief.
  • Body Image: Whether it is a bad relationship with food, an inner monologue that tells us we are not enough, or past wounds that haven't healed in relation to the way we see ourselves body image issues span across gender, age, etc. Body image can filter into all different aspects of our lives and create an environment that breeds dissatisfaction.
  • Transition and Change: Change is inevitable and with it can come stress, anxiety, depression or other emotions. Therapy can help to identify stressors, decrease negative emotions, and increase self-compassion along the way.
  • Children: Often times when children experience a traumatic event or are struggling to respond appropriately to daily living experiences it may be time to explore therapy where they can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe environment so that they can learn new coping skills and engage with their world in a positive way.
  • Distant Couples: Sometimes the stress of life, parenting, or money can get in the way of being the best possible couple. I work to help you restore the relationship from wherever it has been to head in a better direction.
  • Everyone Else: Therapy is one of the few spaces in which insightful, thought-provoking connections can thrive; allowing room for gaining new understanding, fostering growth and healing past wounds. Therapy can be the first step to a fresh start.

I Hope to see you soon!
